An-Nur 24:30
English – Sahih International
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision[1] and guard their private parts.[2] That is purer for them. Indeed, Allāh is [fully] Aware of what they do.
English – Sahih International
And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision[1] and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment[2] except that which [necessarily] appears thereof[3] and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment [i.e., beauty] except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right hands possess [i.e., slaves], or those male attendants having no physical desire,[4] or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allāh in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
What I’m about to say may be controversial to some but this is TheUmmWhoWrites and this is my space to speak my mind and speak the truth. Lowering the gaze is important for both the male and female. Nowadays men and even women have become so desensitised in seeing the awrah of the opposite gender or even seeing body parts of the same gender we shouldn’t be seeing that they may see it and won’t even flinch. Things like instagram, tiktok, youtube shorts etc have made these videos so accessible but slowly it’s destructing your soul. That’s not to say all videos are bad, don’t worry I have my Youtube time to chill too. However, we may be gathering numerous sins by watching certain videos and we are hardening our souls. The more you watch the more you become desensitised and think it’s not so bad anymore. People make excuses “but in this video there is nothing fitnah for me” but that does not stop you from occuring sin from watching something that is not allowed for you to see. It can also create relationship problems as men and women may look at unrealistic videos or images of people and start to compare their spouse when in reality a lot of it is fake (makeup, facetune, surgery, even AI).
A long time ago a student once complained about having weak memory and prior to that day he had gazed upon the ankle of a woman (the feet are awrah). His teacher told him that knowledge doesn’t enter the heart of a sinful person. So then the student repented. If this student was affected by seeing the ankle of a woman then can we imagine how much disgusting images we are exposed to everyday that can make our heart dirty.
This Ramadan let us try to get closer to Allaah and lower our gaze and dress modestly for His sake
in shaa Allaah. 🌹
