What’s the most profound piece of advice you’ve been given? Did you take it?
I wouldn’t say what I’m about to write is the *most* profound piece of advice I’ve been given, but it nevertheless is profound and I did take it. Someone once told me about soaking up the times with my small children now because when they grow big later, they may not need me as much and they may not be around as much. When you are a mum to a small child or children, you often feel exhausted looking after them. If you have a toddler you get tired of their tantrums or countless requests, which is completly understandable as it’s not easy. However, we often forget that one day they will grow and the house may be always clean and tidy then, but it may be quiet with no small children running around. Being able to be with your children and spend quality time with them is a blessing from Allaah. You may often think about doing xyz and it is hard to do with children around, but when you imagine a life without your children and you achieving xyz, doesn’t that life just feel empty? Your children will grow one day but they will remember how you decided to make time for them. We want them to have good memories with us, so we should try to keep this in mind every day.
Reminder to myself first.
